Depression is something I have dealt with for most of my life I have repetitive movements that I do when stressed or happy and fidget a lot.Īutistic people are often more prone to depression. I get obsessed with certain things and will know every small detail about them and talk about them for hours. I often avoid eye contact, speak in a monotone and my facial expression hardly ever changes. I have severe social anxiety and anxiety in general Say for example you were going to stick your hand in boiling water, there would be a part of your brain that would try and stop you, it's like that for everything. I have pathological demand avoidance which means that when I'm asked to do something it is often extremely hard. When I'm in certain situations I lose the ability to speak Although i was unusual in the way that when I was about to wander off I would say "I run off" When I was little I used to elope (not in the way of marriage lol) which is where I would wander off. Their vestibular sense tells them they are moving but their eye sight isn't. I'm also sensitive to my vestibular sense which comes from a small amount of fluid in your ears. It causes me to be really clumsy and my hands and feet to be numb. For example the ability to clap your hands with your eyes closed comes from proprioception. It is an awareness of where your body is in regards to the rest of your body. It also causes poor proprioception which is one of the 7 senses. And even now I still find plain cheese burgers spicy. When I was little I used to find plain fish fingers spicy. I can only wear certain clothes because others irritate me. For me spd causes me to be extremely sensitive to sound, touch, certain smells like for me alcahol, sensitivity to tastes and textures. Comorbidity is where autism Co exists with other things. I have spd (sensory processing disorder) which is comorbid with autism. I don't like surprises or being touched unexpectedly I have to think about every word I say incase it is offensive. Trouble maintaining tone of voice, speed of voice and volume of voice. Taking things too literally (lead to several hilarious stories) Some of the "autistic characteristics" which I have are: It is hard for me to distinguish between supposed autistic parts of my brain and NT parts. Which is why functioning labels like high functioning and low functioning are widely disliked by autistic people.įor me personally autistic is the type of brain I have. There is no such thing as more or less autistic. With parts showing different things in the brain. Also one other thing is the way the film refuses to call him autistic.Ī lot of people like to see the autistic spectrum as linear. She goes into detail and is brilliant in explaining the issues with this form of portrayal. She has a video where she reacts to the movie music which has very similar issues. I highly recommend going onto YouTube and looking up princessaspien. A lot of his movements and facial expressions were extremely exaggerated. He was infantilised throughout the film which is something almost every autistic person has to deal with because of films like this. The first thing with the movie was that it portrayed Leo's character as unintelligent. While it should be noted that there are autistic people who are like this. An unfeeling, unempathetic genius or a childlike pure person. Autistic characters in Hollywood movies almost always fall into one of two categories.
